HYDERABAD: The phone number ‘100’ is for the people to reach out to police in emergencies but a man in Telangana found himself behind bars after he repeatedly dialed it to complain that his wife has not cooked mutton curry.
The accused person identified as O Naveen, 28, a labourer from Cherla Gowraram village in Kanagal mandal of Nalgonda district was booked by Nalgonda police for calling dial 100, not once not twice, but six times to lodge a complaint against his wife under the influence of alcohol.
On Friday night, when Naveen went home in an inebriated condition. Enroute, he purchased some mutton and asked his wife to prepare mutton curry after going home. “Upset over his addicttion for alcohol, Naveen’s wife refused to prepare mutton curry,” said Kanagal sub-inspector Nagesh.
Irked with his wife’s behavior, Naveen called the police and complained against his wife that she was refusing to cook mutton curry. He asked the police to intervene in his favour. “The staff initially ignored it as a prank call. But Naveen continued making the calls and we were notified after six calls,” the SI said.
The police traced the caller and arrested him the next morning. The man has been booked under sections 290 (punishment for nuisance) and 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) of the IPC, the SI said.
Police have appealed to people not to misuse the dial 100 facility as this leads to loss of valuable time and may impact their response in attending to genuine emergency calls.
