Key Points:

  • A division bench comprising Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Kumar Verma poured down heavily on Uttarakhand’s Health Secretary Amit Negi and state.
  • “Stop fooling us and we know the reality. Don’t tell the Chief Justice that there is Ram Rajya in Uttarakhand and that we live in heaven,” the high court said.
  • “You have enough ambulance. The claim is false…. while there are frequent reports that pregnant women in the hills do not get ambulances, they have to be taken by palanquins,” the court added.
  • Criticizing the state over its preparedness, the HC said, “What are you doing to save our children? You must be thinking that Delta Plus variant will say let the government prepare first then it will attack.”

India has been quite in trouble due to the coronavirus pandemic and its ever increasing cases leading to a third wave of the virus. Weeks ago, a bunch full of the citizens were seen breaking the Covid-19 protocols under the ‘supervision’ of the state of Uttarakhand while the holy festival of Kumbh Mela was taking place. This led to an increase in the number of patients that is being hidden by the state government to prove nothing worse happened.

Recently, the Uttarakhand High Court was hearing the cases that were registered against the state where PIL’s were filed alleging delays in reporting Covid deaths by hospitals. The HC had asked the government to run an audit of Covid deaths in the state and submit its report by June 21.

On Wednesday, the division Bench said that the 700-page affidavit filed in the court is misleading.

Hearing the case, the Uttarakhand HC slammed the state government over handling the Covid-19 pandemic, instead, for mishandling it!

A division bench comprising Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Kumar Verma poured down heavily on Uttarakhand’s Health Secretary Amit Negi. The bench said, “you cannot leave the children to die, your arrangements are insufficient” in relation to the upcoming third wave.

“Stop fooling us and we know the reality. Don’t tell the Chief Justice that there is Ram Rajya in Uttarakhand and that we live in heaven,” the high court said.

Adding in, the HC also criticised the recent breach in the coronavirus protocols. It said, “The government did not follow the rules of COVID as recently on the day of Ganga Dussehra, thousands of people took a bath in Harki Paudi. No social distance, no mask, and no sanitation system were in place.”

The HC also observed that instead of struggling to work on a war footing during the pandemic, bureaucratic hurdles are being created in order to delay the process. The High Court also raised a question about the availability of enough Ambulances to the government.

“You have enough ambulance. The claim is false, you talk about enough ambulances in the state, while there are frequent reports that pregnant women in the hills do not get ambulances, they have to be taken by palanquins,” the court added.

Concluding, the High Court heavily criticised the ongoing preparations for the upcoming third wave. The court added that “The Delta variant was spread across the country in a month, the Delta Plus variant will not take even three months. What are you doing to save our children? You must be thinking that Delta Plus variant will say let the government prepare first then it will attack.”
