On Monday, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief, Sharad Pawar was seen defending Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh. This came after former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh accused Anil Deshmukh of a  saying that allegations made by against Deshmukh are false in nature.

Pawar denied of Param Singh’s accusations on Anil Deshmukh by saying that Home Minister was hospitalised on the days mentioned in the letter.

“If you see the former Commissioner’s letter, he mentions that in mid-February he was informed by certain officers that they got such and such instructions from Home Minister. However, from February 5-15, Deshmukh was admitted in the hospital because of Covid-19. From February 15-27, he was in quarantine,” Pawar said at a press conference.

Pawar further continued saying that there was no question of Deshmukh’s resignation based on allegation since he had been going through a treatment during the period he is alleged to have met inspector Sachin Waze.

While addressing the reporters at his residence in Delhi, Pawar said, “I won’t be making any such demand… I am absolutely clear that the allegations made against Deshmukh are incorrect as he was in Nagpur.”

In the 8 page letter to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Singh has alleged that Anil Deshmukh had asked the Ambani Scare Ellwood involved officer Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore every month, including Rs 40-50 crore from bars and restaurants in Mumbai. Deshmukh had denied these allegations and threatened to file a defamation suit against Param Bir Singh.

With all the chaos going on, Bharatiya Janata Party’s leader and former Child Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis countered Pawar’s defense sharing Deshmukh’s February 15 tweet in which he addressed a press conference.

“Sharad Pawar ji said, from 15th to 27th February HM Anil Deshmukh was in home quarantine. But actually along with security guards & media he was seen taking press conference,” Devendra Fadnavis said in a tweet after Pawar’s statements.
