The 12th Board exams topic has been reeling on all screens as there is no definite decision that has been taken about it.

The parents and the students have been retaliating the exams and the government and the Education Minister are firm to wanting to take the exams.

Amidst this, India’s top court, the Supreme Court is seeing a case in relation to the same.

A plea has been put up in the top court and the Supreme Court has adjourned the case to be further viewed on May 31.

The plea has been filed by Supreme Court Advocate Mamta Sharma asking for directions to the Centre, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) to cancel the CBSE and ICSE Class 12 examinations.

The plea had also sought an alternative “objective methodology” to arrive at the Class 12 result within a specific time limit.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Mamata Sharma was being considered by a bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari.

The bench asked the petitioner to serve the advance copy of the petition to CBSE and CISCE and listed the matter on May 31 at 11 am.

“As per the UNESCO statistics for the year 2018 around 7.3 lakh students had opted for foreign universities to pursue higher education. Delay in declaration of result will ultimately hamper one semester of the aspiring students as admission cannot be confirmed until the result of Class XII is declared.” the plea reads.

It is not just Adv. Mamata Sharma but 7000 parents have also moved to the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the Class 12 Board exams amidst the Covid-19 situation in the country.

Even after such a heavy retaliation and so many requests, the Central Board doesn’t seem to have moved from its decision of conducting exams. The decision regarding this is expected to be announced on June 1, as reported by Hindustan Times.

A high level meeting was conducted on 23rd of May in which the state governments were asked to submit their detailed suggestions on the ‘Conducting of Exams’ and the states have done so on May 25, 2021.

News agency PTI reported a senior Education Ministry official:

“We have received the suggestions and feedbacks from more states. There was broad consensus among the states that exams should be conducted. As stated by the minister earlier, an informed and collaborative decision will be announced by June 1.”
