Panju Island village is located in the Vasai Creek, positioned between western railway’s Naigaon & Bhayandar stations. It is an ancient village. Area of Panju Island is around 600 acres, Aagri community dwells here. Main profession of the community is farming, fishing, salt farming & manual sand evacuations by tradition. Panju, which is also the name of the village here, is accessible from Naigaon as it lies between the railway stations of Naigaon and Bhayandar. Spread over 600 acres, the village of 1,500 plus population offers a glimpse into the life of the agricultural community here. It can be reached by ferry boats from Naigaon jetty in seven minutes, said Ashish Bhoir, the sarpanch of Panju island. Over the last few months, teams of architects, engineers and tourism experts have been visiting Panju to prepare a arrangements for the island’s development, said Bhoir. There are also plans to build a large bamboo, ground plus-one structure, which will be home to a museum, aquarium, amphitheater, multi-cuisine restaurant and other tourist facilities, like washroom, waiting lounge, etc. “It will be known as the Panju Peninsula, and will be spread across 1,260 sqm,” said another officer from the planning commission.
