Mumbai: Railways has reiterated that ladies are barred from carrying their children in Mumbai local trains. The decision was once again announced after it was found that a large number of women passengers were seen travelling with their children in the local trains. The rule is applicable in both Central Railway and Western Railway routes. DRM Mumbai and Mumbai Central have given their nod to the rule.
In order to stop children from boarding the local trains, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed at each entry gate.
“Railway Board has only permitted the ladies passengers to travel in local trains during the stipulated hours over Mumbai Metropolitan region. However, it has been noticed that women passengers are travelling with their child/children. In view of the above, it is once again reiterated that only ladies are allowed during the timing stipulated and not children. Hence it is requested to depute RPF at each entry gate and issue necessary instructions to restrict the entry of the children at the entrance itself,” the order stated.
Under the ‘Begin Again’ Mission, the Maharashtra government in October-end had permitted all women to travel by the locals. Earlier, only women working in essential services and government offices were allowed to travel. Women travellers are travel in local trains in stipulated time from between 11 am and 3 pm and 7 pm till midnight.
