Experts fear that the newly emerged variant named Omicron might not respond to monoclonal antibody therapy or even cocktail treatment.
Experts suggest that this variant has six times more potential to spread as compared to the Delta variant. The second wave in India was triggered by the Delta variant. It also has the potential to evade the immune system and can also cause vaccine breakthrough infections.
Causing heavy infections and mortality, the Delta variant responds to monoclonal antibody therapy, but Delta plus did not respond to this therapy.
The second variant of concern is Omicron which might also not respond to monoclonal antibodies.
