On Tuesday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal recommended to exempt a mandatory RT-PCR Test for fully vaccinated people arriving in Mumbai in a letter to the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra.
As COVID-19 cases in the country were rapidly increasing during the deadly second wave, in the month of May, the Maharashtra government had imposed restrictions on domestic passengers. The passengers were asked to carry a report of negative RT-PCR test conducted 48 hours before their journey.
BMC Commissioner Iqbal said since the vaccination drive started across the country, many vaccinated people have been requesting to waive off the condition of carrying the negative Covid report.
As of Tuesday, Mumbai reported 441 new coronavirus positive cases which was the lowest after February 9, 2021. Mumbai recorded less than 500 cases and less than 10 COVID-19 fatalities.
