Maharashtra reported a descent in cases and deaths on Saturday.A total of 10,259 new cases and 250 fatalities were reported on Saturday, taking the total caseload to 15,86,321 and fatalites to 41,965. For the fourth continuous day, the number of Covid-19 cases in Mumbai showed a decline with 1,791 fresh patients added to the tally. The metropolitan city has so far registered 2.4 lakh cases and 9,739 deaths, including 47 added on Saturday 17th October. As per the BMC daily update, the doubling rate registered an increase to 86 days. Of the 47 victims, 38 patients were diagnosed with co-morbidities and 38 demises were of those above 60 years of age.
Most hospitals, both public and private, said the patient load has been going a downward slope. BMC-run KEM Hospital’s dean Dr Hemant Deshmukh said the number of Covid-19 inpatients was around 200 on an average till the last week. He stated,“Now, we would have around 150 patients and the criticality among patients is dropping. We have certain zero-death days as well.” What can be seen in a positive note, is the number of recoveries in the state (14,328). Mumbai (2,988) is in the forefront in the number of new cases by 40%. The recovery rate improved to 86% in Mumbai and the remaining state despite the number of active patients dropping to 1.8 lakh in the state and 18,717 in Mumbai. Opposition leader of BJP Devendra Fadnavis has penned down yet another letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray. Fadnavis demanding testing in Mumbai and the state be increased. As per his inputs,in the first fortnight of September, the state had conducted a total of 12.7 lakh tests, with an average of 84,675 daily. However the number has dipped to 11.2 lakh tests in the first fortnight of October, with an average of 75,296 tests daily. He states the positivity rate in Mumbai is constantly on the rise. A total total of 1.8 lakh tests have been conducted in the city from October 1 to 15, and a total of 31,453 patients were detected which causes a jump in the positivity rate to 17.3%, resulting in a 1.4% growth as compared to the 15.9% which was the positivity rate for the same time last month.
Fadnavis stated,”Of the total Covid fatalities in the country, 44% are from Maharashtra and despite that, the government is not increasing the tests.” He asserted his point which expresses that with the positivity rate showing little to no signs of decline, the government should focus on increasing the number of tests carried out daily.
