Mumbai on high alert as Covid cases double faster than the first, second wave

On Tuesday, the city saw a massive surge in the Covid cases as it reported 1,377 new Covid cases which was a steep rise from 809 infections that were reported a day ago and one more death, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Amid the rise in Covid cases and its new variant, the BMC issued fresh guidelines for the city. 

  • Night curfew has been imposed in the city from 9 pm to 6 am. 
  • Private parties on the terraces are prohibited.
  • No new year celebration programmes/functions/gatherings/parties or any activity should take place in closed or open spaces.
  • Celebration including 1000+ attendees will need prior authorization from local disaster management authority.
  • Restaurants, gyms, and cinemas to operate at 50% capacity.
  • Only vaccinated citizens to be allowed at public places,
