Meghalaya reopens for tourists from December 21

On Tuesday, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma said that the state will be open for tourism from December 21 for the first time since the Cobid-19 pandemic entered the country this year. The CM added that the tourists will have to strictly follow the guidelines and health protocols to visit the ‘Land of Clouds’.

“Meghalaya reopens its #Tourism from 21st December, 2020… The Home of Clouds looks forward to welcoming you,” Sangma said on Twitter.

To check on the tourists, a dedicated application of Meghalaya Tourism will be in action that will make Registration compulsory plus the app will check whether the standard operating procedures (SOPs) put in place to ensure the safety of everyone, said a Tourism Department official.

The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • All tourists who wish to visit the State of Meghalaya will need to mandatorily register on the Meghalaya Tourism App and generate an E-Invite for the proposed itinerary. The Meghalaya Tourism App is available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple Store.
  • Upload their photo identity on the app.
  • Provide the complete tour itinerary besides showing proof of confirmed booking.
  • Tourist can display the E-Invite with QR Code on the mobile phone or a print out of the E-Invite with QR Code.
  • Those travelling in a group can register and generate one e-invite.
  • It is mandatory for tourists to come with a Covid Negative RT-PCR/TruNat/ CBNAAT report which will be valid only if they were tested within 72 hours of their arrival at the entry point.
  • The RAT Negative Test is not valid for Tourists who are entering the state.
  • An original copy of the COVID Negative report has to be also produced by the tourist at the Entry Point.
  • The services of registered tour operators listed on the Meghalaya Tourism website and on the Meghalaya Tourism App, can also be used to get an e-invite.
  • Those staying as a guest of any family or friend in Meghalaya, need to declare the contact details and full address of the family or friend. They will also need to submit the complete itinerary to obtain an e-invite.
