Now, citizens may soon be able to walk into a department store in the state of Maharashtra and grab a bottle of Chenin Blanc or any other wine bottle. You ask why?
The state government has proposed a policy to allow “Walk-in Stores” so as to retail wine under a new policy.
This move has been permitted keeping new marketing prospects in mind which will allow the sales of wine in the city. Separate wine racks can be created by departmental stores where products can be purchased once the policy is implemented.
The new policy is still being finalised.
A proposal to impose a nominal excise duty of 10% on wine is in the pipeline as part of this policy.
