On Thursday, March 26, The Urban Development Minister and the Thane District Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde directed the state’s Chief Secretary to file a consent time period within the High Court to give concrete kind to the challenge of setting up an expanded Thane Railway station on the positioning of a regional mental hospital. The Minister was talking in an assembly which was held at the Sahyadri Guest House.
The assembly was also attended by Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte by a video conference. Bhushan Gagrani, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department, Vipin Sharma, Thane Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Sadhana Tayde, Thane district surgeon were the ones who were also present there.
Eknath Shinde stated in the assembly that in the view of congestion due to the rising inhabitants at Thane railway station, it is applicable to broaden the Thane railway station on the positioning of Regional Mental hospital for the passenger’s security.
As per the reports, the Indian Railways had determined to assemble the Kopri railway station between Thane and Mulund to scale back Thane station’s load. The station’s value is INR 289 crores and it shall be funded under the Smart City Project. The Health Department had also agreed to hand over the land to the Indian Railways. The land was meant for the Mental Hospital. Therefore, the Thane Municipal Corporation(TMC) was roped to rehabilitate people who reside on the same land.
“The TMC is going to construct three buildings for the hospital. The work has been pending for five to six years now and it should be noted that the cost of the project is also increasing due to the delay,”he added.
