Maharashtra Cabinet, on Thursday, passed a proposal so as to allow the sale of wine at supermarkets and walk-in stores.
The statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office says that the ‘shelf-in-shop” method can be adopted by the supermarkets and stores which have an area of 1000 square feet or more. Also, the stores should be registered under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act.
The supermarkets located near places of worship and educational institutes will not be allowed to sell wine. Moreover, the wines will not be sold in places wherein the prohibition is in force. Additionally, the supermarkets will have to pay a fee of Rs.5000 for the license to sell wine.
