On Thursday evening, the Maharashtra government announced relaxations in the state as the Covid-19 situation in the state has somewhat come under control.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held meeting with the task force on Thursday and the relaxations in the state were announced.

The government is now contemplating allowing shops to remain open beyond 4 pm and also allow people who have taken two doses of the vaccine to travel in local trains, said sources.

The 25 districts where relaxations will be effective include Mumbai, Thane, Nashik and Nagpur where Covid-19 indicators like positivity rate and case growth rate are lower than the state’s average. The remaining 11 districts—Pune, Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Raigad, Palghar, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Beed and Ahmednagar—have a higher weekly positivity rate and case growth rate than the state average.
