The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022 seeks to replace the Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920. The bill looks to define “measurements” including palm prints, finger prints, footprint impressions, photographs, iris and retina scans, physical and biological samples as well as their analysis. Moreover, the bill seeks to boost the National Crime Records Bureau of India to gather, store and preserve the measurement records for sharing, dissemination, destruction as well as disposal. With this, the crime investigation will become more efficient and will help to increase the rate of conviction.
