On February 14, the Karnataka High Court struck down the states’ gambling law as unconstitutional. This came as a major relief to the skill-based gaming firms that had stopped operations in Karnataka.
This judgment will make way for fantasy sports and gaming firms like Dream11, Mobile Premier League, Games 24×7 (Rummy Circle, My11Circle), and Ace2Three. It was in October last year when they had suspended operations.
On December 22, the Karnataka HC had reserved its judgment after concluding the hearing from various petitioners which included industry associations, gaming companies, and also those who had challenged the constitutional validity of the new online gambling law which came into effect on October 5.
