It will be suspension from one match if it is a second offence and a third violation will lead to the player’s expulsion from the tournament with no replacement to be provided, the notification says. The players could be sconced as much 3000 AED which is approximately 60,000 INR for not completing their daily health passport, not wearing GPS tracker and missing a pre- scheduled COVID-19 test. The family members and team officials are also obliged to follow the same regulations. All players and support staff are being tested every fifth day of the tournament in the UAE.
The team officials too, need to be scrupulous in ensuring that the stringent bio-bubble is not contravened.
If a franchise permits “any person into the bubble to interact with players/support staff”, it will be amerced of Rs 1 crore at the first offence, a point will be deducted at the second offence and two points which is equivalent to one win for the third violation. In an unlikely but possible scenario when a team is unable to field a playing XI as less than 12 players are available, the BCCI will try to reschedule and if that is not possible, the match would be considered lost.
Teams will also be subjected to face a BCCI inquiry in case of repeated violations of health and safety calls put in place for the event taking place amid the pandemic.
Since the commencement of the tournament, many reports regarding the health concerns are arising. Claims of pacer KM Asif breaking the bio bubble to go to the reception area of the team hotel in Dubai to get spare keys for his room were refuted by Chennai team CEO Kasi Viswanathan. Rajasthan Royals bowler Robin Uthappa had hit the news when he was seen applying spit on the ball during his match with KKR. All these instances are currently handled by the BCCI and the ICC to ensure proper safety measures are taken and that the tournament goes smoothly.
