India: Nearly 2,00,000 people test positive, active caseload nears 1 million

On Wednesday, the data published by the Health Ministry showed that in a massive spike, India reported around 2,00,000 fresh Covid-19 infections with as many as 194,720 people testing positive. Moreover, daily fatalities also witnessed an increase with 442 lives lost due to Covid.

With the given figures, the nationwide tally has risen to 36,070,510, including a related toll of 484,655. The number of active cases is near the mark of a million and as of now, it stands at 955,319. As per the data, recoveries, active cases and deaths comprise 96.01%, 2.65%, and 1.34% of the total caseload.

On Monday, the country began the latest phase in the vaccination drive as “precautionary doses” were administered to the healthcare workers, frontline workers as well as senior citizens with comorbidities.
