On 28 January 2022, Bharti Airtel and Google said that they will partner in a long-term and multi-layer agreement to push the growth of India’s digital ecosystem. For this, Google intends to invest up to $1 billion.

In a statement, the companies said that in 2020, the CEO of Google and Alphabet Sunder Pichai had announced USD 10 billion for “Google for India Digitization Fund” and the investment amount is a part of this. It will also include equity investment and corpus for potential commercial agreements to be agreed on and known on mutually agreeable terms over the period of the next five years.

They added, “Together, they will work to bring best-in-class end-to-end products to serve customer needs, provide quality customer experience, and bring their expertise to solve problems of affordability, access, and digital inclusion.”
