On Saturday, the national capital’s government gave nod to the constitution of the Delhi’s own school education board. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that this new board will have a governing body headed by the Education minister of the Delhi government and an executive body headed by a chief executive officer.
“In today’s cabinet meet, we have given approval to the constitution of a Delhi Board of School Education,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said.
In a press conference, Kejriwal said that in this year, the state government schools will be affiliated to Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) and the next five years, all schools will be bought under the same board.
“We hope that all schools will voluntarily get affiliated to this board within four to five years,” Mr Kejriwal said.
“The focus will not be on learning by rote. It will be on understanding (of concepts) and personality development,” he said, adding that students will be assessed through the year and the education system will be based at par with international standards.
In the city, there are around 1,000 Delhi government schools and about 1,700 private schools, most of them affiliated to the CBSE.This means that the CBSE affiliation of the schools will be scrapped after which the schools will be affiliated to the Delhi board of school education.
CM Kejriwal also added that DBSE will be aimed at imparting such education that prepares “fiercely patriotic” and self-dependent students who serve the society and the country in a selfless manner.
Kejriwal added that both the governing and the executive body will have experts from the education sector, bureaucrats, and principals of both government and private schools.Arvind Kejriwal said the focus of the Delhi Board of School Education will be on understanding (of concepts) and personality development.
