Maharashtra is seeing a hike in the number of Covid-19 cases since the past 2 weeks and amidst this, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray addressed the state people on Sunday, virtually.

CM Uddhav Thackeray has warned the citizens of the state and said there will be a total lockdown if people don’t start wearing face masks. For the past week, more than 200 COVID-19 cases are being reported daily in the state.

“The pandemic is raising its head in the state, but whether it is another wave will be known in eight to 15 days,” he said in a television address. Thackeray said that political agitations will not be allowed for the next few days as they attract crowds.

The CM asked a question to the people saying, “Do we need a lockdown? If you behave responsibly, we will know in the next eight days. Those who don’t want a lockdown, will wear a mask. Those who want a lockdown, will not wear one. So, wear a mask and say ‘No’ to the lockdown.” After saying this, the CM seems to clearly rule out the Lockdown option for the next 8-15 days. “Lockdown may not be the solution to COVID-19, but it is the only option to break the cycle of the virus,” he added.

According to Thackeray, a face mask is the only “shield” in the war against coronavirus. “Wear mask, maintain discipline and observe social distancing to avoid a lockdown,” Thackeray said.

“Whether this is a second wave or not, we will understand this in the coming 8 to 15 days,” he added. The chief minister also said that if the numbers keep rising for the next 8-15 days, there are chances of putting the state into the Lockdown situation again.

The districts that are already seeing a spike in the coronavirus patients have been permitted to put restrictions on the citizens announced the CM. “From tomorrow, all political, social and religious events will be banned for a few days. The ‘My Family, My Responsibility’ campaign was launched when you were sitting at home, but it will be difficult to do it now and will strain the system,” Thackeray added.
