During his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, PM Modi highlighted the attributes of dogs of Indian breeds, and on why citizens should focus on adopting Indian breeds more.
Indian breed dogs are very good and competent. Among the Indian Breeds, Mudhol hound and Himachali hound are high pedigree dogs. Rajapalayam, Kanni, Chippiparai, and Combai are some of the good breeds mentioned by PM Modi.
The cost of their upkeep is quite low, as they are accustomed to the Indian conditions.
Further, the Indian Council of Agricultural research is also conducting research on how Indian breeds can be more useful and beneficial.
In recent years the army, CRPF, NSG have trained and induced Mudhol hound in their dog squads.
Here’s why you should adopt the Indian breeds
1. Indian breeds are native, adaptable and one of the healthiest breeds around.
2. They stand in sharp contrast to the St Bernard’s and huskies who are not meant for a tropical country like ours.
3. Most of the breeds like Labrador or huskies come from unethical breeding, which later leads to multiple medical complications.
4. A mistaken belief is that Indian dogs are aggressive, it really depends on the humans training them.
5. Breeders dump the mother after she’s unable to bear puppies. We can stop this pathetic trade by adopting our own Indie breed.
When self-reliant India is becoming the mantra of the masses, no area should be left behind. As Indian citizens, we can adopt an Indian dog.
