Bonus of ₹3,737 crore for Government Employees – Union Cabinet on October 21

On Wednesday, October 21, The Union cabinet approved ₹3,737 crore bonus for central government employees. The bonus is said to benefit 30 lakh non-gazetted1 employees. These employees will be inclusive of the autonomous central organization employees too, said the Union minister Prakash Javadekar.

“The Union Cabinet approved to pay Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for the year 2019-2020 to 16.97 lakh non-gazetted employees of commercial establishments. The Railways, Posts, Defence, EPFO, ESIC will be profited and the financial implication would be ₹2,791 crore,”

The Non-PLB bonus of ₹946 crore has been announced to be given to 13.70 lakh non-gazetted Central Government Employees, said the next part of the statement.

Minister Prakash Javadekar said,
“This will encourage the middle-class to spend and thus add to the demand in the economy,”

He said the bonus will be given in a single installment through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) before Vijayadashami.

Under the LTC Cash Voucher scheme:

  • Government employees can opt to receive a cash amount.
  • This is:
  • – To leave encashment 3 times more the ticket fare
  • – To buy items which attract a GST of 12 per cent or more.
  • – To spend digitally to avail the benefit of the Scheme.

Under the Special Festival Advance Scheme:

  • All Central Government employees will have access to Rs 10,000 advance till March 31, 2021.
  • The amount will be given to central government employees as a prepaid RuPay.

The second scheme, announced by the finance minister on October 12.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the bonus was a concern as the Dearness Allowances was suspended for the Central Government employees and had to sacrifice a part of their salaries too.

Yesterday, the Union Cabinet also approved the adaptation of the Jammu & Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989.

“This move will help establish all the three tiers of grass-root level democracy like in other parts of the country,”
Javadekar mentioned.

( 1 – Class III or Class IV Officers are included in the non-gazetted filed where they do not have the personal authority to issue an official stamp on behalf of the Government.)
