In view of the rising cases of the Omicron variant, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged people to avoid gathering and crowding and to follow appropriate Covid protocols. The BMC has also warned of strict action against the offenders.

It has been appealed by the BMC commissioner, Iqbal Chahal, to the people to avoid gathering on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

The BMC, in the guidelines, has said that squads will be deployed at the ward level so as to take action against the violators. The BMC has appealed to the people to follow the rules in hotels, restaurants, cinemas, and shopping malls.

The revised guideline says that, in closed spaces, up to 50% capacity will be allowed. Whereas, in open spaces, up to 25% capacity will be allowed. Prior permission of the Local Disaster Management Authority is a must if a gathering of over 1,000 people is planned.
