Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at the Opposition for opposing the new farm laws. Monday morning saw flames near India Gate when a tractor was set on fire which was a few hundred metres from the Rashtrapati Bhavan and parliament. The Punjab Youth Congress took responsibility for the burning of the tractor.

PM Modi while addressing about the Namami Gange program said that,

“In the last six years, there have been many reforms that will change the common man’s life. The recent Parliament session, the bills passed with strengthen people. But people are seeing that some are opposing these just for the sake of opposing.”

“Their (opposition) one more means to receive black income is finished,”

he added.

This comes amid protests across the country against the three farm bills which had been passed by Parliament during the recently concluded monsoon session. On Sunday, President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to the three bills. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that these parties are insulting the farmers. Launching a sharp attack on Opposition parties leading the protests against the farm laws, PM Modi said,

“For years, they said that they will implement MSP (Minimum Support Price) but they never did. This was done by our government as per the recommendation of the Swaminathan Commission.” He also said that the Opposition parties are protesting “just for the sake of it”.

Farmers were protesting against the bills because they say that the new laws could lead to end of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce. In assurance to farmers, PM Modi said.

“There will not only be MSP in the country but also the freedom for farmers to sell their produce anywhere.”
