Tirath Singh Rawat was the name selected and elected during a meeting of Uttarakhand BJP’s legislature party held at the state party headquarters as the successor of the ex-CM of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat, who resigned from his position on Tuesday.

Trivendra Singh Rawat handed his resignation to the Governor and said, “The party gave me a golden opportunity to serve this State for four years. I had never thought that I would get such an opportunity. The party has now decided that the opportunity to serve as chief minister should be given to someone else now. I have submitted my resignation as the chief minister to the Governor.” Trivendra Rawat was then questioned by the media about his replacement as the Chief Minister where Trivendra replied saying that the Party will take the decision. Rawat’s resignation comes just a day after he met party president JP Nadda in Delhi.

A meeting was then held for almost 30 minutes and Tirath Singh Rawat was the name that the BJP announced as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Tirath Singh, after taking over as the new CM said, “I thank PM, HM and party chief who trusted me, a mere party worker who comes from a small village. I had never imagined that I wouldd reach here. We’ll make all efforts to meet people’s expectations and take forward work done in last 4 years.”

Tirath Singh Rawat, the 56-year-old politician is set to swear as the 9th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Tirath Singh Rawat is MP from Garhwal (Uttarakhand). He was the BJP chief in Uttarakhand from February 9, 2013 to December 31, 2015 and a former member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from Chaubttakhal constituency from 2012 to 2017.
