On Thursday, demanding the Agnipath scheme to be withdrawn, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana saw violent protests with hundreds of army aspirants as well as people burning tires and disrupting road and rail traffic. A train at Bhabua railway station was also set ablaze amid the protests. Railway tracks were blocked in the Kaimur district.
The scheme was launched on Tuesday by the Centre. The scheme is all about recruiting jawans on a four-year period contractual basis. The recruitment will be followed by a compulsory retirement for the majority without the benefits of pension or gratuity. In view of this scheme, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has urged the government to let the youth have the chance of serving the country throughout their life and not just for a period of four years.
