On 25 September, Farmers in various states of India staged protests against three contentious bills recently passed by the government. Farmers have termed the bills “anti-farmer” and have been agitating against the bills in multiple states like Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka and UP. Farmers in Punjab have been protesting at more than 125 sites.

Former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who recently resigned from the Union Cabinet against the protest showed solidarity and protested against the farm bills with her family.

Two of the three disputed bills were passed by the government amid strong opposition from farmers. Farmers have alleged that these bills will destroy livelihoods and will end the ‘Mandi’ system that guarantees MSP.
