India is a country of Temples and Gods and a lot of belief. Currently, due to the pandemic, almost all the temples and religious places have been shut. But, on Tuesday, 18th May, the portals of Uttarakhand’s Badrinath Temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu opened. The temples opened in the early morning at 4 am and an opening ceremony was held too.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shrine was shut and another reason for it to stay closed was the Winter season that was prevailing in the North of the country. Badrinath temple is located in the upper Himalayan region of the hill state of Uttarakhand which happens to be covered in snow for months.

On this occasion of the reopening of the Temple, Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat tweeted, “The portals of Lord Vishnu’s Badrinath shrine were reopened today at 4:15am with all rituals and religious practices. Health and well-being of the people is the government’s foremost priority. I pray to Lord Badri Vishal to keep everyone in the state healthy and safe.”(translated from Hindi to English)

Not just this, the CM also said that the health of the people in the state and the country is still its first priority.

“Safety of public health is our priority. I pray for the health of the people of Lord Badri Vishal,” Rawat said in a tweet.

Rawat added, “A limited number of people, under the leadership of the head priest, will offer regular prayers to Lord Badri Vishal.”

The ‘Char Dham’ Yatra remains suspended temporarily due to the unsafe conditions amidst the coronavirus pandemic. “”Char Dham Yatra’ has been temporarily postponed. I request all of you to perform prayers at your homes,” the Uttarakhand CM added.

Badrinath temple’s Chief Priest, Ishwar Prasad Namboodiri, reopened the portals at 4.15 am chanting the Vedic hymns. The priest also offered prayers for the well-being of all.

Now that the Badrinath temple is open, all the four temples, popularly known as CHAR DHAM are now open in Uttarakhand.

The Kedarnath shrine opened on Monday and the Yamunotri and Gangotri on May 14 and May 15 respectively.

However, all the four have been kept out of bounds for pilgrims temporarily due to the coronavirus pandemic.
