Padma Vibhushan awardee and an eminent historian Balwant Moreshwar Purandare was popularly known as Babasaheb Purandare, passed on Monday (today). He was known for his works on Chhatrapati Shivaji, especially for his play which was based on the life of a Maratha warrior.
He passed away at the age of 99 in Maharashtra’s Pune. Babasaheb was also called Shiv Shahir (Shivaji’s bard) as he was an authority on Chhatrapati Shivaji.
From a young age, he started to write stories related to the Shijavi era which were compiled later on and were published in a book titled “Thhiganya”. “Thhiganya” means spark.
In 1885, he conceived a popular plot of the drama named “Janata Raja” and was staged in the same year, it also receive a huge mass appeal.
