Assam Government has decided to provide students of schools and colleges with financial incentives so that they don’t miss out regular lectures. State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has informed that the state government has decided to give every girl Rs. 100 per day they attend schools.
While addressing the reporters, state education minister announced that the state government will be depositing Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 2,000 respectively for undergraduate and postgraduate students in their bank accounts till the end of this month so that they can by books with the help of this incentive.
“Wehad planned this last year itself but could not implement it because of the spread of COVID19. We wanted to pay money for attending classes in both schools and colleges,” said the education minister.
Girl students of Assam have been provided with scoots by the state government and total 948 girls have received scooters till now.The government will spend Rs 144.30 crore to buy motorbikes for 22, 245 girls who passed the Class 12 board exam in the first division.
This move is seen as an attempt to win over the students ahead of the coming assembly elections.
Himanta said that next month the government would give scooters to 5,000 girls who passed Class XII in the first division in 2018 and 10,000 girls who achieved the feat in 2019.”We want boys and girls to enjoy the same kind of care. Many parents marry off their daughters early, thinking that their sons would take care of them. This mindset needs to change,” Himanta added.
