  • “Happy with the arrest,” is what Anvay Naik’s family said over Arnab Goswami’s arrest by the Mumbai Police.
  • Republic TV Journalist, Arnab Goswami has been arrested in a 2018 suicide case of Anvay Naik and his mother.
  • Late Anvay Naik’s family, Akshata and Adnya Naik, after pleading the centre to reopen the case, Goswami was arrested in Wednesday morning.

The arrest of Arnab Goswami in the 2018 suicide case has been done by the Mumbai Police.

The Alibaug Policed team picked Arnab from his Lower Parel house on Wednesday morning and he was subsequently arrested.

The deceased Anvay Naik’s family that includes his wife Akshata Naik and daughter, Adnya Naik, hailed the arrest of the alleged Arnab Goswami. The family of Anvay Naik said they were “happy with the arrest” of Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami for allegedly abetting the suicide of the 53-year-old interior designer in 2018.

“We are happy with Arnab Goswami’s arrest. There was a lot of pressure on us to close the case from the police earlier. He e-mailed Arnab asking to return money and that it was matter of life and death for him. He didn’t meet our father,”
Naik’s daughter, Adnya said.

A suicide note that was discovered in 2018 written by Anvay Naik read that he and his mother were in acute financial distress because large payments owed to his company – Concorde Designs Pvt Ltd, had not been paid by three clients, including Arnab Goswami/Republic TV. The amount owed by Republic TV is said to be Rs 83 lakh.

Akshata Naik, after seeing Arnab scream for the justice of the high profiled Sushant Singh Rajput’s case, put up a video on twitter in which she mentioned that, “Arnab Goswami kept saying arrests should be made in Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case where there was no suicide note. My husband left behind a suicide note naming Arnab and two others but no arrests were made. How is this fair?”

Contradicting to every statement against Goswami, Republic TV backed the very famous journalist saying that the police action was part of “a larger cruel exercise against an independent journalist and news organisation.”
