On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen addressing at the Aligarh Muslim University’s Centenary Celebrations via Video link. The PM said that the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) represents ‘Mini-India’ and has excelled in its education since the last 100 years.

Saying that the nation was on a path where everyone, irrespective of religion, was assured of their constitutional rights and their future and where no community was left behind, PM Modi said that the government’s schemes for the poor are reaching all sections ‘Without Religious Bias’.

“We must realise that politics is an important part of society, but there are many other issues in society besides politics… For a new India, the core is that welfare must not be seen from the prism of politics. There are some elements who may have an issue with this. They can be found in all countries. They will spread negativity. But these people will be sidelined if we work for the betterment of the country keeping politics aside. Politics can wait, society can wait, (but) the country can’t wait for development, the poor and disadvantaged can’t wait for development,”
said Modi as he addressed students, teachers and staff of the varsity.

The PM said that when the aim is nation’s progress, ideological differences and politics must be secondary.

Congratulating the alumni of the 100-year-old University for their stellar research, Modi urged them to keep working with the same enthusiasm but this time, to unify the nation, propagating the message of oneness.

“I often meet AMU alumni during my foreign visits, who very proudly say that they are from AMU. The university campus is like a city… We also see a mini India. The diversity of AMU is a country’s power. We should not forget this strength nor let it become weak. We have to work towards strengthening the feeling of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat’,” he added.

The PM assigned them duties to go back and read about the previous researches done by stalwarts who studied in AMU and made India proud.

“In the last 100 years, AMU has also worked to strengthen India’s relations with many countries of the world. The research done here on Urdu, Arabic and Persian languages, research on Islamic literature, gives new energy to India’s cultural relations with the entire Islamic world,” PM Modi during his virtual address.

The initiatives taken up by AMU during the pandemic period were appreciated by the Prime Minister. Resting the criticisms by the oppositions on the University of favoring only one particular committee, Modi said that ‘we are Indians first and such differences should not be manufactured.’

The Prime Minister also released a postal stamp as part of AMU’s centenary celebrations.
