On Wednesday, the Mumbai police said that prohibitory orders under the Code of Criminal Procedure’s Section 144 have been imposed in Mumbai from December 16 to December 31. This period covers Christmas as well as New year’s eve. As a part of measures to prevent the spread of Covid, large gatherings will be banned in the given period of time.
A notification was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the executive magistrate for greater Mumbai. Chaitanya S, will continue to be in effect in the city till December 31.
The order also said that restrictions were necessary in order to curb the threat posed by the Omicron variant. The Omicron variant is said to be highly infectious and also capable of undergoing frequent mutations.
