On Thursday, Madhya Pradesh High Court had called the Doctor strike “illegal” and ordered them to go back to work by Friday afternoon.
Hours after the hearing, nearly 3,000 junior doctors resigned on Thursday. The doctors also announced that they will challenge the High Court.
According to India Today TV report, Madhya Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (MPJDA) Secretary, Ankita Tripathi said, “The government didn’t accept our demands, but only gave us assurance so we did not end our strike.”
“The government has promised to raise the stipend by 24% and till they raise it to that limit, the strike will continue,” she further added.
“The government is saying that junior doctors are blackmailing them, which is not true. If we had to blackmail the government, why are there fewer patients now?” MPJDA Secretary asked.
On the current situation Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang said that even after their demands were met, “their attitude shows their bigotry”.
The junior doctors have put forward multiple demands before the state government, including a hike in stipends and free treatment for them and their families, if they contract the deadly coronavirus infection.
