BMC plans to build artificial pond for Pitru Paksha after dead fishes were found floating in Banganga Tank

Near Mumbai’s Walkeshwar Temple complex, hundreds of fishes were found dead after people immersed large amount of food offerings in the tank as a part of the Pitrupaksha Rituals.

As per the locals in the area, it is an annual occurence to see the dead fishes in the tank as several people go to the tank annually on the occassion of Pitrupaksha in order to offer food offerings to their ancestors.

While addressing the issues, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar told the reporters that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to build an artificial pond that will be used for the rituals which will also prevent harm to the water body.
