The Supreme Court has dismissed the petitions by a rape survivor and her assaulter to marry each other in Kerala. The survivor requested to marry the assaulter who is a former priest, serving a 20 year prison sentence.
The apex court had also rejected the bail sought by the assaulter for the marriage. At the time of the incident, the survivor was a minor and she had given birth to a child.
A bench of Justices Vineet Saran and Dinesh Maheshwari told the guilty to plead Kerala High Court for bail. “The high court has taken a decision consciously and we would not like to interfere with its finding,” the bench added. The bench also told the woman that she may go to the trial court for her request.
