  • The test will consist of a few online videos on road safety plus a quiz where one has to answer at least 60% of the questions correctly
  • The ones clearing the test will be able to download/print their learner’s licence on their own
  • If individuals do not want to do the Aadhar authentication process, they can follow the existing process to acquire their learner’s licence.

Maharashtra has unlocked cities that have ranked in the Level 1 list of the least affected ones but, Covid cases are surging day by day and amidst this, all the driving schools and centres are shut.

But, Maharashtra government has a plan for it too! The state government has now allowed individuals wanting a learning license for driving can now take it just by sitting at home. An Online test is all they’ve to give based on the Aadhaar-verification and if they pass in the test, an online learning license would be sent to them.

The state government has issued two directives to 50 regional transport offices (RTOs).

One of the rules are as mentioned above and another allows citizens to register their respective non-transport vehicles without having to physically visit the RTOs.

This move is also a part of the previously declared statement of taking up several bureaucratic processes online amid the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and reduce the burden on the staff by the State.

In March, the centre has issued a notification that mentioned the use of Aadhar authentication for services like registration certificate of vehicles and procurement of learners licence.

Changes were then made by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in the systems used for vehicle registration and driving licence issuance across India –  Vahan 4.0 and Sarathi 4.0.

Details as per the Official Notice:

  • Individuals applying for learner’s licences will need to provide their Aadhaar card number before giving the online test from home

The move that has been taken by the state will now throw off the illegal middle agents plus decrease corruption and footfalls at RTOs. At the same time, people will save a lot of time – the citizens as well as the staff. The staff will have a lot less burden too.
