Key Points:

  • A drive-in Covid vaccination facility will be set up at the Viviana mall, Thane, in the coming days said the Thane Municipal Corporation Twitter handle.
  • TMC tweeted, “The centre will be fully functional in the next two days and only 100 persons above the age of 60 years will be administered the vaccine daily between 10 am to 1 pm, given that they register themselves online first.”
  • Currently, Thane city is showing positive signs with lesser COVID-19 cases and more recoveries after recording a huge spike in April.

India is hit bad by the second wave of Coronavirus and Maharashtra is the biggest contributor to the daily number of cases in the country. Mumbai ranks first in Maharashtra and Thane is no far than that.

Amidst this, the vaccination process in the state of Maharashtra has been the highest so far and currently, a shortage of doses is increasing the demand of the Vaccine from the residents.

In the middle of this, a local civic body, on Monday, announced that a drive-in  Covid vaccination facility will be set up at the Viviana mall, Thane, in the coming days.

Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) official Twitter handle stated the same. The official page tweeted that the Drive-In facility will be set up in Viviana Mall’s parking. The mall is located near the Eastern Express Highway.

The civic body also mentioned that the drive-in facility is only open for individuals that age above 60 years

“To avoid overcrowding at vaccination centres and to avoid inconvenience to senior citizens, it has been decided to set up a drive-in vaccination centre in the parking lot of Viviana mall in Thane,” the TMC tweeted.

Adding in, the TMC also said, “The centre will be fully functional in the next two days and only 100 persons above the age of 60 years will be administered the vaccine daily between 10 am to 1 pm, given that they register themselves online first.”

Thane’s Mayor Naresh Mhaske had recently complained of a vaccine shortage so as to execute the drive-in vaccination facility. “On a daily basis, we can vaccinate 20,000 people, but for that we need doses. We just don’t want to launch a drive-in facility to show-off,” he had said.

Not just Thane, a number of Drive-in vaccination centres have been set up in Mumbai and citizens of the city are applauding the BMC efforts for the same.

Currently, Thane city is showing positive signs with lesser COVID-19 cases and more recoveries after recording a huge spike in April. The cases in the Thane have dropped below 300, as of Tuesday, for the first time in over two months.

But the cases of Mucormycosis (black fungus) have also been come across.
