On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was chairing a meeting with the Chief Ministers of state and Union Territories over the Covid-19 situation in the country. PM Modi said that the situation that currently the country is facing is challenging and is emerging once again due to the Coronavirus. He even urged the states to stop up the Testing process.

While in the meeting, the Prime Minister said that many states had crossed the peak of the first wave in terms of COVID-19 cases and it was a matter of serious concern that include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Punjab.

“The country has already crossed the peak of the first wave. The spike rate this time is higher than the first wave. Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and other states have crossed the peak of first wave. Some other states are also moving towards the same quickly. It is a worrying and serious concern for all of us,” PM Modi said, adding that people have become more casual and the administration more neglectful.

Seeing the situation, PM Modi announced that the period between April 11 to April 14 can be observed as Tika (vaccination) Utsav` for COVID-19 vaccination.

“There is a need to work on a war footing again to fight COVID-19. Despite all the challenges, we have better experience, resources and a vaccine,” he said.

PM Modi also asked the states to focus on Micro-containment zones in the meeting. He urged the CMs to use the word ‘CORONA CURFEW’ for the Night Curfew in order to instill alertness in people.

“We must concentrate on micro-containment zones. In places where night curfew has been imposed, I would urge you to use the word ‘Corona Curfew’, to continue alertness about coronavirus. It will be better to start curfew timing from 9 pm or 10 pm till 5 am or 6 am,” he added.

PM Modi also focused on the need for adopting measures like testing, tracking, treating, Covid-appropriate behaviour and Covid management to control the heavily increasing cases.

Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi displayed criticism over the PMs Tika Utsav plan. “Amid the growing corona crisis, shortage of vaccines is a very serious issue and not an “utsav”. Is it right to export vaccines by putting the lives of the countrymen at risk? The central government must help all states without any bias. We all have to defeat this pandemic together,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
