Pune ranks first in the country for having the most number of Active Covid-19 cases. Due to the massive surge in the district as well as the State of Maharashtra, Pune district, on Friday, announced fresh restrictions and a Night Curfew from Saturday in order to control the spread of the virus.

According to the orders issued by Pune (Maharashtra) Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao, the night curfew or almost a mini lockdown that has been announced will go on for 12 hours from 6 PM to 6 AM. 

The night curfew will be followed till the next Friday, April 9 and then the situation in the district will be reviewed. 

Saurabh Rao said, “We have collectively decided to take some measures keeping in mind the goal of causing minimal hassle to citizens, but those that will help us slow down the spread of the virus. A golden mean was settled upon.” 

Guidelines for the next 7 days:

  • Bars, Hotels, Restaurants will remain closed in the given timeframe.
  • Only home deliveries of food, medicines and other essential services will be allowed in this period.
  • Places of Worship/ Religious Places will remain completely closed.
  • No Public functions or gatherings allowed.
  • Only 50 people allowed for Weddings
  • Only 20 people allowed for the Last Rites. 
  • Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses will not be in operation for these 7 days.
  • PMPML buses will only be available for essential workers and industries and other organisations that need staff to travel can hire buses from PMPML.
  • Assembly of more than 5 people in the curfew time is restricted.
  • Schools and colleges will remain shut till April 30.

Due to the new wave of infections, Pune remains the worst-affected areas in India. 

Pune’s biggest single-day rise in the cases was detected on Wednesday with 8,605 cases reported and consecutively, 8,011 cases were reported on Thursday.

Rao said that the administration had started an aggressive vaccination campaign, and it will continue to increase the daily vaccinations until, in a few days, it reaches 1 lakh daily vaccinations.

“The situation will be reviewed next Friday,” said Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao.

During the address, Rao pointed out the increasing Covid-19 cases in the neighbouring districts like Satara, Sangli and Solapur. Due to this, the oxygen supply was falling short in the Pune District and said that the administration has taken steps to meet the shortfall.

“‘Jumbo COVID-19 Hospitals’ have been activated in the district by the administration but, the increasing amount of patients from the neighbouring districts may also lead to a shortage of beds soon,” Rao said.
