It was on Thursday that the state of Maharashtra recorded its highest single day rise in its Covid-19 cases. The state recorded 43,183 new infections on April 1, 2021.
With an increase in the coronavirus cases, the state’s active cases need rose to 366,533. The total number of cases has reached 2,856,163 in Maharashtra (as of Thursday).
The total number of cases since the start of the covid-19 pandemic reached 28,56,163.
Not just the state but, the capital of Maharashtra – Mumbai, also added a record number of 8,646 new covid-19 cases taking the city’s tally of infections to 4,23,360. Mumbai added 18 fatalities, pushing its death toll to 11,708.
Maharashtra saw a grim record of most deaths due to Covid-19 in a single day which stood at 249. With this addition of 249 fatalities due to covid, the total number of people who lost their lives to it stands at 54,898.
For a second day straight, the state added over 200 fatalities.
On the other hand, 32,641 people in the state recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 24,33,368.
The second capital of the state – Nagpur also reported high number of cases. On Thursday, the district of Nagpur reported 3,630 new coronavirus cases and 60 deaths, authorities said.
With this, the district’s caseload rose to 2,29,668, while the death toll went up to 5,158, the District Information Office said in a release.
Nagpur city had the highest deaths with 50 fatalities and 10 from its rural areas. Aurangabad city reported 35 deaths.
Talking about the testing, Maharashtra state tested 183,198 samples, and had a positivity rate of 23.57% whereas the overall positivity rate of the state stood at 14.3%.
