Keypoints:
- In Mumbai, people who have registered themselves on the CoWIN portal can get vaccinated without waiting for scheduled appointment.
- The move comes amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra.
- The ones who have not registered on the app, can visit the nearest vaccination centre, get registered and then get vaccinated at the centre itself.
- Amid the COVID surge, BMC will be conducting tests randomly at public places without consent.
On Sunday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said tha Mumbaikars who are eligible to get inoculated can get their dose of vaccine without waiting for the scheduled date. This decision is taken so that the vaccination drive gains pace.
“The vaccine has now been made available to help prevent Covid-19 and it is necessary to speed up the vaccination drive. In this regard, the government has made arrangements to vaccinate senior citizens above 60 years of age and those with co-morbidities in the age group of 45-59 years. Citizens in the above-mentioned age groups are thereby appealed to register successfully on the Co-WIN portal and visit their nearest vaccination centre to get vaccinated without waiting for the date of the scheduled appointment,” the civic body said in a statement.
“Even those eligible citizens who have not registered on the CoWIN app are appealed to approach the nearest vaccination centre wherein they can first get registered and then get vaccinated at the centre itself. This may, however, take a little more time,” the municipal body said.
