Fuel prices have crossed the sky’s limit and reached greater heights since the Lockdown. Petrol prices in Delhi have crossed Rs 86, while in Mumbai, they are close to Rs 93. The prices in Delhi are breaking their own record every day. Apart from Delhi, petrol prices have increased in other metro cities as well. The rate of petrol in Mumbai was Rs 92.86 per litre, in Kolkata, the rate was Rs 87.69 and in Chennai, it was Rs 88.82 per litre, on Wednesday. 

The prices were expected to rise but, branded or premium petrol price crossed ₹100-mark in Sriganganagar town of Rajasthan as petrol and diesel prices were hiked on Wednesday for the second consecutive day, which came as a sudden inflation. 

In Sriganganagar, regular petrol costs ₹98.40 per litre and premium or branded petrol comes for ₹101.15 a litre.

According to a price notification from oil marketing companies, petrol and diesel prices were raised by 25 paise per litre each across the country on Wednesday.

While the current FY, taxes on petrol and diesel were raised by Rs 13 and Rs 16, respectively, in the form of special additional excise duty and road and infrastructure cess.

Fuel prices vary from state to state depending on local sales tax or VAT. The prices are now at record high levels in the country.

The prices are said to go even higher than these as retail prices may have to be balanced in line with the global developments to prevent OMCs from making losses on sale of auto fuels, said the Oil companies’ executives.
