On Wednesday, Tripura Education Minister Ratanlal Nath announced that the state government has approved proposal to provide free sanitary napkins to all school going girls. This scheme is named as “Kishori Sucheta Abhiyaan” and it will involve an investment of Rs 3,61,63,248 from the state’s exchequer during a period of three years.

“To enhance female menstrual hygiene, the Tripura Cabinet on Wednesday gave approval for providing free sanitary napkins among all school girls from class sixth to twelfth,” Nath said while addressing a press conference in the secretariat.

“The state education department has also adopted the ‘Policy On School Bag 2020’ in accordance with the guideline of the Department of School Education and Literacy of Education Ministry,” the minister added.

Adding to this, Nath also addressed that the state’s Covid situation is improving and at present there are only 5 patients under treatment at the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital. Meanwhile, there are 32 people under home isolation.

The Tripura government will also start following the School Bag Policy 2020.While talking about the new policies being implemented in schools, the education minister of Tripura further said, “The state education department has also adopted the ‘Policy On School Bag 2020’ in accordance with the guideline of the Department of School Education and Literacy of Education Ministry.”

As per the new School Bag Policy 2020, the weight of Class 1 and 2 student’s bags should be 1.6 to 2.2 kg as the average body weight of a child in that age is 16-22 kg. It further states that Class 11 and 12 students can carry a 3.5 to 5 kg bag as the average weight of children in that age is around 35 to 50 kg.
