Petrol prices have touched skies and amidst the situation, BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has spoken his mind out related to the price hike of petrol. Swamy has always been open while talking what’s in his mind, often going against his party’s stance.

On Monday, December 7, Swamy tweeted on Twitter hitting out at the government over high fuel prices in the country. Over the years, Swamy has been seen criticizing a lot of activities and decisions that the BJP-led Government have taken. Holding examinations amidst the pandemic was one of the few and now, its fuel prices.

BJP MP Subramanian Swamy said that in his opinion petrol must sell at max. Rs. 40 per litre and anything beyond that is a ‘monumental exploitation’.

The tweet said: “Petrol price at Rs. 90 per litre is a monumental exploitation by GoI of the people of India. The price ex-refinery of petrol is Rs. 30/litre. All kinds of taxes and Petrol pump commission add up the remainder Rs.60. In my view petrol must sell at max. Rs. 40 per litre.”

Petrol prices in India are at a 2-year high level, with a litre of the transportation fuel selling at Rs83.71 in Delhi on Monday. As of Tuesday morning, the Indian Oil Corporation website lists petrol at Rs. 90.34 in Mumbai. Diesel costs Rs 80.51 in the city. The prices are slightly lower in Delhi.

Despite the hue and cry over high fuel price in metros, the prices already surged in small cities like Bhopal (Rs 91.50 per litre), Aurangabad (Rs 91.57 per litre) and Indore (Rs 91.58 per litre) in the past week.
