Anil Paraskar, former Raigad superintendent of police is in deep trouble for his alleged inept handling of the Anvay Naik’s suicide case.
Meanwhile, pressure is now mounting on home minister Anil Deshmukh to take action against Paraskar, an IPS officer of the 2009 batch, and then the investigating officer, Suresh Varade.
Also, an attempt was made by them to shield the main accused. It is alleged that Paraskar had provided special facility to the accused at the instance of a then senior BJP cabinet minister.
The crime took place at Alibaug and instead of recording his statements in Alibaug, he was allowed to record it in Mumbai and that too in the office of a joint commissioner of police. Anil Deshmukh, who took a massive risk by not only initiating criminal proceedings against the main accused, but also arresting them in the work hours, is in the process of gathering specific evidence against the police officials in Raigad district, who went beyond the provisions of the law to halo the accused. Anil Deshmukh has asked the investigating officers to build a watertight case so that there is no scope for the accused to get away; saya a senior IPS officer. It’s not a witch hunt, says Deshmukh and with the help of his government, the case will be taken to a logical end.
An inquiry against the investigating officer has been ordered by the state government. The investigating officer is the one who filed a closure report last year in the 2018 abetment to suicide case in which the Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami and two other businessmen are the accused.
An architect and interior designer, Anvay Naik was found dead on May 15, 2018, along with his aged mother Kumud, at their farmhouse in Alibaug. A suicide note purportedly stated that they had ended their lives because payments due to them had not been cleared by Arnab Goswami or ARG Outlier, Feroz Shaikh of IcastX / Skimedia and Nitesh Sarda of Smart works. The note said the Rs. 5.4 crore was due in all.
