NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condemned the deadly knife attack in France that left three people dead inside a church.

“I strongly condemn the recent terrorist attacks in France, including today’s heinous attack in Nice inside a church. Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of France. India stands with France in the fight against terrorism,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

An attacker armed with a knife “Allahu Akbar” beheaded a woman and killed two other people at a church in the French city of Nice on Thursday, while a gunman was shot dead by police in a separate incident.

Within hours of the Nice attack, police killed a man who had threatened passersby with a handgun in Montfavet, near the southern French city of Avignon.

He was also shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is Greatest), according to radio station Europe 1.

After the Nice attack, Prime Minister Jean Castex raised France’s security alert to its highest level and said the government’s response would be firm and implacable.
