BARC expresses disappointment for disclosing and misrepresenting private communication

ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd, which owns Republic TV, and its editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami moved the Bombay high court seeking to quell the FIR lodged against the channel in the alleged fake TRP scam.

The petition has also asked for a direction to transfer the case to the CBI. The alleged fake TRP scam came in attention when BARC filed a complaint with the police through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain channels were falsifying TRP numbers to snare advertisers.In the ongoing investigation into the scam, Mumbai Police has so far taken into custody six people for allegedly manipulating influence ratings.

Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) on Sunday expressed discontent with Republic Network for revealing their private & confidential communication.In a statement, BARC said that it has not issued any comments on the ongoing investigation and is providing all necessary assistance to the investigation into the ratings manipulation scam.The statement came in reply to Republic Network’s claim that an email from BARC contravenes the allegations levelled by Param Bir Singh, Mumbai Police chief.

The rating agency stated,”BARC India is highly disappointed with the actions of the Republic Network by disclosing private and confidential communications and misrepresenting the same. BARC India reiterates that it has not commented on the ongoing investigation and without prejudice to BARC India’s rights, it expresses its dismay at the actions of the Republic Network.”

BARC on Saturday had also stated that its efforts presently are to find out “individuals” who are behind the infiltration of homes to influence the data.
